As part of the state's focus on social protection programs for the most vulnerable groups, the Ministry of Agriculture gives significant attention to social protection through a variety of projects aimed at supporting small farmers and women in villages and rural areas. In line with the Ministry's social responsibility, Mr. El Sayed El Quseir, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, received a report from Dr. Ali Hazin, Head of the Executive Authority for Comprehensive Development Projects, on the agency's efforts. The report outlined the agricultural, health, and veterinary services provided, along with small projects implemented through these initiatives. The report highlighted that the Comprehensive Development Agency, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, distributed 1,800 small sheep-raising projects to beneficiaries of the social protection program "Takaful and Karama" in the border governorates of the Red Sea, South and North Sinai, and Matrouh. Additionally, 403 egg-laying chicken projects were distributed in the villages of Kafr El-Sheikh at a cost of EGP 15,000 per project, along with 220 sheep-raising projects in "Hayah Karima" villages in Qena Governorate. The goal of these initiatives is to integrate capable individuals, who benefit from the Takaful and Karama cash support program, into the labor market by helping them own small or micro-projects after building their capacities through training and rehabilitation. The agency provided training for beneficiary families before receiving the projects, ensuring that the distributed breeds were well-adapted to their respective areas. The animals received all necessary vaccinations and were insured comprehensively for the benefit of the families. Furthermore, the beneficiaries were provided with sufficient feed for at least three months. Dr. Hazin added that the Comprehensive Development Agency, in cooperation with the World Food Program, implemented the "Livelihood Empowerment for Bedouin Communities" project in Matrouh. This project delivered a range of services in Bedouin areas, including education, healthcare, agricultural, and livestock services, aimed at increasing income and improving food security. The project established six community classrooms, two women's development and vocational training centers, two health units, one veterinary unit, and rehabilitated 9.7 km of valleys, resulting in the reclamation of over 500 acres, benefiting more than 200 families. Other notable activities included: Building 88 water collection wells with a total capacity of 13,200 cubic meters. Distributing 236 tons of barley seeds, enough for planting 8,322 acres, and 332,500 olive seedlings to support around 8,117 farmers. Organizing 53 veterinary convoys that vaccinated 334,624 animals and provided various health services. Conducting 44 training sessions in handicrafts, sewing, health awareness, and women’s empowerment, benefiting over 1,365 girls. Constructing 333 pigeon towers in West Matrouh and Ras Al-Hikma, providing income-generating projects for women and vulnerable families. In the Halayeb and Shalateen regions, the Integrated Development Project supported small fishermen and herders through: Distributing 30 fiberglass boats, equipped with engines, refrigerators, and fishing licenses. Distributing 2,000 sheep and goats to the most vulnerable families and providing dry feed. Installing 100 greenhouses and digging 7 mechanical wells to improve agriculture and animal husbandry in these areas. The comprehensive and sustainable development model implemented in Wadi Hodein in Shalateen aims to create modern Bedouin communities with homes, job opportunities, and agricultural, livestock, and fishery production. This model promotes the use of natural resources like saline water and desert land for agriculture and industries such as medicinal herbs, camel dairy, and fish farming, offering fresh vegetables and poultry products at discounted prices, benefiting the local community.
